A man who strangled his wheelchair-bound partner and then tried to attack a member of the public with an ice-pick has been sent to prison.

Scott Taylor, 38, of Throckmorton Yard, Norwich, pleaded guilty to battery and affray after drunkenly strangling his partner, who has multiple sclerosis, during a heated argument. After the assault on June 8 this year, Taylor went outside, where he became involved in an altercation with two men, and picked up a wooden-handled metal ice-pick to threaten them with.

At Norwich Crown Court, Doug Mackay, prosecuting, described Mr Taylor's treatment of his partner, which included calling her “fat and worthless”, pushing her around and squeezing her throat until she thought she was going to die.He said: “For the last five years Mr Taylor's partner has had to put up with his moods, as he was constantly drunk. He said no-one would ever want her, and grabbed the handles of her wheelchair, pushed her into the bedroom and squeezed her throat so hard she could hardly speak.”
